We met Buddy for the first time in the last section. Now we see that Molly Sue is watching the woods behind the school on the other side of the large clearing. She thinks she has heard him call her name, so she watches.
The parent teacher conference went well. Molly Sue is a good student who loves learning. This is good for both Molly Sue and Sharon. Since Molly Sue is improving that looks very good for Sharon.
Also, it appears that the teacher spoke well of Sharon to Marcia Wallace. That should go a long way in helping Sharon keep Molly Sue.
But not so fast. It seems that Leslie had a lead balloon to drop. She herself spoke highly of Sharon as of course she would. But Marcia Wallace is probing Leslie for more information that she is convinced that she has.
Then she asks about Sharon’s drinking. Leslie does believe that Sharon drinks too much, but she isn’t all that concerned about it. She has never seen Sharon do anything that shows she has a problem with it.
But when Leslies confesses, Sharon is devastated. Once again she just knows that it will all fall apart.
I believe she secretly feels that she doesn’t deserve to keep Molly Sue and so every time there is a bump in the road, she falters.
Have you ever felt that something you wanted very well just wouldn’t happen because deep inside you felt you didn’t deserve it? I know I have. It is a horrible feeling.
How do we overcome this? How do we know if something we want will happen for us?
Because what the Lord gives us doesn’t come to us because we deserve it. We can’t do enough to deserve anything. It is from his goodness and kindness that he blesses us with our requests.
Even when he doesn’t - right then - give us what we have asked for, it may be a delayed answer so that we will be able to handle the ‘yes’. Or he may, out of his deep love for us, be protecting us from the ‘yes’. Whatever the case may be, he gives to us because he loves us and not because we deserve it.
Does Sharon deserve to have Molly Sue? That is debatable, but she has been very good to the girl and Molly Sue is happy and cared for. I would say that if anyone but her mom should have her it would be Sharon.
But remember that sometimes our ‘yes’ doesn’t happen for our own protection, growth, or for the other persons welfare.
It is anyone’s guess if Sharon will be able to keep Molly Sue.
