ARJIS was a real thing that occurred at that time. I thought it was a great bit of history to implement here in this story. It gave Sharon something to do, something to focus on.

Let me point out here that in this time period that police stations had very little communication between each other. There was no internet or computers linked together.

When searching for Molly Sue the police station was searching for a missing child. They had called around to see if anyone had reported a child missing. But of course Donna and Buddy were the only two who knew about Molly Sue and knew she was missing.

What they should have been looking for was a missing pregnant woman who had disappeared five years earlier. Donna’s family had reported her missing. But with the limited resources in those rural small towns, she was never found.

From that time to now, our technology and forensic science has grown exponentially. Each year leaps and bounds are made. But back in the 1970’s there was little more than fingerprints.

We see Sharon here still battling the pain of losing Molly Sue, as one would. She is up and moving, but hollow on the inside. It is Bill’s compassion that generated the computer project for Sharon hoping that it will help give her something other than Molly Sue to focus on. And it did.

We could talk here a bit more about how the men would take the computer system. They certainly wouldn’t let a woman boss them around about it. They were also fearful of losing their job to it.

Today we face AI and many have concerns about losing their jobs to this technology. I am not in a position to say whether it will or it won’t. There are others who fear, as seen in so many movies, that it will overtake the planet.

So, if we put ourselves in their shoes we too can gain a sense of what they were feeling. Bill being on board and the driving force behind it was what the men needed to comply.

Like life does, it goes on in spite of tragedy. It may not go on the same, but it does go on. No matter what loss we suffer, illness, death of a loved one, or a variety of other tragedies time does not stop.

What matters the most is how we deal with it. Sharon hasn’t suffered just one blow, but many and without healing in between. She has no relationship with God to help walk her through the healing process, so each wound occurs on top of the last gaping wound. She doesn’t know how she will recover this time.

Thank goodness God still cares and send friends to gird her up and take care of her until she can call out to Him. Even when we don’t see Him there, He still is.
