This was a necessary but very precious chapter to see the world for once, from Molly Sue’s perspective. Her faith, her obedience to not only her mother, but to Jesus as well.
She had not been raised to fear. Donna had made it a point to resist any mention of fear and taught Molly Sue faith in its place. Wisdom yes, caution yes, but never fear which annihilates faith. The two cannot co-exist. The dirty fountain of fear will always taint the pure fountain of faith.
She trusted as she walked through the dark forested woods. Did she have uncertainty? We can only assume so. But Jesus was faithful and right there with her so she never felt alone.
When she saw the bunny rabbit and began to run after it with exuberant joy, Jesus stopped her.
The note that Donna had so painstakingly crafted to get it just right flew away on the wind. We have to ask ourselves, if Jesus was right there with her, guarding her and taking care of her, just exactly why did he allow the note to fly away?
Let’s paint a scenario where it hadn’t. Molly Sue would have come to the station and then presented the note to Sharon. They would have conducted a thorough search and probably found Donna.
They would have put Donna in the hospital with a disease that was probably fatal. They would have arrested Buddy putting him in a mental home.
Molly Sue would have been put in a foster home, or they may have found her father and Donna’s parents who she had never known, maybe. And Sharon would well, still be Sharon in the midst of all her pain and self-loathing.
We often question things from our limited vantage point. But the view from where God sits see it all. He sees all who need help. We often say, “Well if I were God…” But we aren’t, we have a limited capacity. We must learn to trust even when we can’t even fathom why things are happening the way that they are.
Was it just a coincidence that Sharon worked at the police station? Was it just a coincidence that the place where Molly Sue came out from the woods was so close to the police station? I don’t believe there are as many coincidences as we think there are.
Of course this is a fictional story. But it is one that I hope will get us to reevaluate our thought processes. Help us to see things differently. Help us to live differently. Help us to yearn to live a more pure, simple and faithful life like Molly Sue.
But the story isn’t over yet. How could this story possibly end?
