Chapter 18 Section 2
Donna - December 1976
This would be Molly Sue’s third Christmas. The toddler was active and precocious, but she was genuinely the light of Donna’s life. It was now a full-time job to keep her close. Donna had taught her over and over again that she could not go further than the chain would allow. She was careful to not instill fear in her, but wisdom. She didn’t want Molly Sue to fear anything.
Buddy had begun working long and hard days. In his limited way, he had become a good provider for Donna and Molly Sue. Life was simple, but honestly, life was good. Donna still missed her family and Jared, but the memories faded into the past and were no longer painful.
Sometimes she would forget about the chain still clamped around her ankle and then laugh out loud when she remembered. “God, it is only you that has made my life so sweet amid this absurd situation.”
