Today’s Meditation Verse
Hebrews 8:10
10) FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL
AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD:
I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS,
AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS.
AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD,
AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
I love this verse. Here the author is talking to the Hebrews. He is talking to the people who have made a life of living by the law. Thousands and thousands of them. Their entire life was covered, and from the time they were tiny children, they were indoctrinated with the law. Because that was what God had told them to do.
But this verse shows the true heart of God. It is a show of love that he said long ago in the Old Testament that He intended to do away with the law, to free them. And when He would free them, He would then put ‘right and wrong’ on their hearts and in their minds. It would be automatic, and they would know what to do.
In the New Covenant as the engrafted branches into the Jewish nation, we too have had this stamped upon our hearts and minds. The Holy Spirit lives in all true believers in their heart and He is there to teach us ‘right and wrong’.
I also like the next verse of this scripture because it says that they won’t have to be taught what the laws are. With so much of their life spent day after day trying to learn every law to please God, they were consumed by it. But God was not only going to set them free from the responsibility of having to learn, since He was just going to PUT it there, they no longer were slaves to an endless life of teaching!
Hebrews 8:11
11 “AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACH EVERYONE HIS FELLOW CITIZEN,
AND EVERYONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’
FOR ALL WILL KNOW ME,
FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.
His greatest desire is not for us to have to follow the law and to ‘be’ right, but to KNOW Him! He did away with it all so that He could just draw us near. That is the heart of Father God!

Each Monday I am going to be having ‘Monday Meditations’. I hope to bring to you each Monday a verse to mediate on for the week. This is not for memorization, but to think about and to dwell on. The word meditate, in the bible, means to mutter. So this week as you go about your life, think about and mutter to yourself the verse for the week and think about how it applies to your life. Meditating on a verse will bind it to your spirit and it will become part of you! The more of the Word you meditate on, the more it will transform you into the image of Christ!
