Miracle Story | God Sees Even When I Don’t - Episode 22

Miracle Story | God Sees Even When I Don’t - Episode 22

Keeping with the theme of God saving me from careless and stupid actions, here is another one. I am convinced that I have a gene in my DNA that has pre-programmed me to believe the best in a person, any person. So, needless to say, I have had my fair share of stupid moments when I believed someone was telling me the truth, and they were not.

Each time I would firmly resolve not to get duped again, and each time it would happen again. I Corinthians 13:6 in the Amplified Bible, says love believes all things [looking for the best in each one]. I guess you could say that is what that gene is in my DNA. It could be worse. I could be entirely cynical and suspicious of everyone and everything. I would rather love and believe the best.

But back to the story. There was a period of time when the entire world seemed to crash down on me. There were major, I mean major life events that I was having to deal with on my own. I won’t discuss those ordeals here because others are involved and I want to protect their privacy.

On top of those multiple major events, I had decided to buy another car and sell the one I had on my own. But I couldn’t sell it. The double car payments on top of everything else I was dealing with were almost more than I could endure. This was in the 90s when we sold things via advertisements in newspapers or specialty papers. I had placed an add in one such paper.

One night I got a call, and it was a man who said he helped people sell their cars. He had a lot, and instead of buying the car and reselling it, he would allow customers to put the car on his lot, and then he would get a commission or cut of the proceeds when sold.

I met him at his office. I didn’t see a car lot. Not sure why that wasn’t the first red flag. His office was virtually bare. Not sure why that wasn’t the second red flag. He seemed incredibly nervous. Not sure why that wasn’t the third red flag.

I signed some kind of paper, gave him the keys and went home to wait for him to sell the car. I was excited and hopeful that this man, whom I didn’t know, would get the car sold.

About a week later, I got a call from the OKCPD. It was an officer who asked me a few questions, such as my name and address. Then he asked me if I owned a silver Mustang. I said yes. They said that they had my car and that I could come down to the police station and get it.

I was shocked. When I got there, two officers were in the parking lot of the station, standing beside my car. I explained to them what the situation was. They explained to me that I had been scammed, and that man had stolen my car.

They said it was a fluke that they had even stopped him. But they just felt like they should, and sure enough, nothing added up. They arrested him and gave me back my car. They were very serious when they said that I should feel incredibly lucky to have gotten my car back.

I knew it wasn’t luck. It had been another miracle from God in the midst of another stupid mistake. God retrieved my stolen car, which I didn’t even know had been stolen. The officers were so wonderful. They were so sympathetic towards me.

They told me this scam had happened before, and they rarely found the cars. When they did, they were usually in parts or crashed. Again, they emphasized just how fortunate it had been for them to stop the man and retrieve my car.

Needless to say, I was once again humiliated but so eternally grateful to God for getting my car back. Again, perfection is not a prerequisite for God to perform a miracle for you. If you trust in Him and lean on Him, He will work on your behalf even when you don’t know you need it. He will literally save you from yourself.

This study is a culmination of this week’s Monday Meditation and the Wednesday Word Study. By drilling down on specific scriptures and then specific words, we can gain a better understanding of the Word of God and therefore apply it to our lives more accurately. The Friday Finally episodes take both the Monday Meditation and Wednesday Word Study and pull them together for an overall teaching to equip and train us for a more godly and beneficial life.
