Miracle Story | God Surprised Me - Episode 21
Several years after graduating from college, I worked for various companies. I hated leaving jobs; however, various situations led me to work for several employers through those years. It was good in the aspect that I gained a ton of expert knowledge.
One morning while I was driving to work, a thought ran through my mind, not a prayer. The thought was so outlandish that I would never have been able to believe it could have come true. Just musings in my mind, as I sometimes did.
I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be nice if I could work from home, but not with a business of my own? But with a company, so I could get a steady paycheck. Oh, and maybe even get to travel on top of that. I chuckled as I rolled this over in my mind at the cherry I had added on top.
One day while I was working at a credit union as Vice-President of Administration, I was talking to a friend who had been looking for a job since her boss had retired and closed his clinic.
This particular day she told me about a recruiter who had called her about a job where she would have to work from home and travel. The more she talked, the more I thought that was a dream job. I had completely forgotten the thought that had rumbled through my head weeks, maybe months before.
I told her that she should take it. But she had a new baby at home and that it just wasn’t workable for her. In a couple of days, I talked to her again and kept urging her to take that job. It was a dream job. Finally, out of frustration, she said I should just take the job.
It caught me off guard, and even though the place I worked was fraught with peril, I wasn’t a quitter and brushed off her comment and said I was fine. About a week later, I was sitting at my desk dealing with more BS and I sat looking off into space and thought, why not? Why not see if I could get that job? I still didn’t remember the thought that had run through my head.
I called my friend and asked her if that job was still open, that I would like to apply for it. She said she would call the recruiter and get back to me. It was! I was so excited and scared at the same time.
The interviewing process was long. The company was a large national contract sales organization that worked in the pharmaceutical realm. They had a nine-step hiring process. A huge gauntlet to get through.
It took about three or four full months. They hired me. It was a dream job. I got to work from home. They paid me substantial money, plus bonuses. There was a ton of time off. And I got to travel all over the United States. I was in heaven.
One day, a year or so in, I was driving along and was thanking God for getting me that job. Then I heard Him distinctly say, “Do you remember that day that you thought it would be nice to have a job where you could work from home, but get a paycheck and get to travel?” And then I remembered. But I hadn’t prayed for God to do that for me.
I couldn’t comprehend such a thing, so I had no faith that He could or would do such a thing. Once again, I was overwhelmed with gratitude.
What is the lesson here? God cares to the core for us. He wanted to bless me with that gem of a job because of His love for me. I could sense His joy when He reminded me of the day when I merely thought about what a perfect job would look like. He started that plan in motion and just surprised me with it.
That is the preciousness of our loving Father. Was my life perfect? Not by a long shot. Did I always do the right thing? Not by a long shot. It wasn’t my behavior or performance that caused Him to do that for me.
There were serious family issues I was having to deal with from multiple sources that pressed on my life daily. So many issues to deal with, but God, in the midst of the storm, blessed me with something precious. He will do the same for you. Stay close to Him. Bare your heart to Him. He desires closeness with you. Whether it is in tears or in anger or in disappointment, He can take it and wants to provide you comfort and solutions.
This study is a culmination of this week’s Monday Meditation and the Wednesday Word Study. By drilling down on specific scriptures and then specific words, we can begin to gain a better understanding of the Word of God and therefore apply it to our lives more accurately. The Friday Finally episodes take both the Monday Meditation and Wednesday Word Study and pull them together for an overall teaching to equip and train us for a more Godly and beneficial life.
