Today’s Meditation Verse:
Colossians 3:16-17
16 Let the teaching concerning Christ remain as a rich treasure in your hearts. In all wisdom teach and admonish one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and sing with grace in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, and let it be through Him you give thanks to God the Father.
Today’s verse was taken from the Weymouth version of the Bible. I really love the way it uses these particular words because it reflects just how I feel.
Let the teaching concerning Christ remain as a rich treasure in your hearts.
A rich treasure. When you hear teaching about Jesus, do you hold it as a ‘rich treasure’ in your heart? I do. And as each year passes, it is more and more dear to me. I believe if we truly treasure in our hearts Jesus and all teachings about Him, then there is little room for anything else. It will push out dangerous desires, and destructive behaviors. How can we treasure Jesus and His teachings in our hearts and still harbor malice and discontent?
And then…
…whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, and let it be through Him you give thanks to God the Father
If we do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, how can we do anything that isn’t loving and kind towards others? And then add to that giving thanks to God while doing it. There leaves no room in our lives for the sinful acts of our old life.
Our Father God is a generous and loving Father. Meditate on that this week and allow Him to flood your heart with His love. You will in turn not be able to resist giving Him thanks this Thanksgiving week.
Each Monday I am going to be having ‘Monday Meditations’. I hope to bring to you each Monday a verse to mediate on for the week. This is not for memorization, but to think about and to dwell on. The word meditate, in the bible, means to mutter. So this week as you go about your life, think about and mutter to yourself the verse for the week and think about how it applies to your life. Meditating on a verse will bind it to your spirit and it will become part of you! The more of the Word you meditate on, the more it will transform you into the image of Christ!
